PITTSBURGH — Online home furnishings giant Wayfair is making a major investment in Western Pennsylvania, announcing plans to open its first-ever brick-and-mortar store in the state at North Hills Village along McKnight Road.

The new 95,000-square-foot retail showroom is expected to open in 2027, transforming the former Burlington space into a destination where shoppers can browse furniture, décor, and home improvement products in person while receiving expert design advice.

The Pittsburgh-area location is part of Wayfair’s continued expansion beyond online shopping as the company grows its physical retail footprint across the United States. The retailer said Pittsburgh’s strong neighborhoods, diverse housing stock, and growing regional market made it a natural choice for its first Pennsylvania location.

What Shoppers Can Expect

Unlike a traditional furniture store, the new Wayfair location will combine an immersive showroom with digital convenience. Customers will find:

🛋️

Thousands of curated "Wayfair Verified" home furnishings and décor items.

🎨

An on-site Design Studio, where professional consultants can assist with everything from refreshing a single room to planning an entire home renovation.

🛍️

Smaller home accessories available for same-day purchase.

🚚

Large furniture pieces available for fast home delivery, often within two days.

New Employment Opportunities

While hiring for the North Hills Village store has not yet begun, the project is expected to create dozens of local retail jobs as the opening date approaches. Typical positions at Wayfair’s large-format stores include:

Retail Sales Associates
Interior Design Consultants
Visual Merchandising Specialists
Warehouse and Stock Associates
Customer Service Representatives
Department Managers
Store Leadership and Operations Managers

Those interested in working for the company can monitor openings through Wayfair Careers, where retail positions will be posted as hiring begins. In the meantime, Wayfair continues recruiting for distribution and fulfillment positions in the Pittsburgh region, including jobs at its Oakdale-area operations.

A Boost for North Hills Village

The arrival of Wayfair is expected to breathe new life into one of the shopping center’s largest vacant spaces and further strengthen the busy McKnight Road retail corridor.

For shoppers across Allegheny County and Western Pennsylvania, the store will offer something many customers have wanted for years — the ability to see, touch, compare, and experience Wayfair products before making a purchase. With the addition of Pennsylvania, Wayfair continues its measured expansion into physical retail, joining a growing but still limited number of large-format stores nationwide.

PUM Take

This is a significant economic win for the North Hills corridor and a signal that Pittsburgh’s retail market remains attractive to national brands. The jobs created — from design consultants to warehouse staff — represent real opportunity for local residents. Watch for hiring announcements as the 2027 opening approaches.
