More Backpack and School-Supply Help Available
The events above are among several opportunities available to families throughout the Pittsburgh region. The Early Learning Resource Center Region 5 has compiled an extensive list of August back-to-school events, including supply distributions, clothing assistance and community resource events throughout Allegheny County.
Some programs have limited supplies, require registration or are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Families should check with the sponsoring organization before attending to confirm availability, registration requirements and any eligibility rules.
A Little Help Can Go a Long Way
For many Pittsburgh-area families, preparing children for a new school year means more than buying notebooks and pencils. Backpacks, shoes, clothing, haircuts, school fees and other expenses can quickly add up.
These community events offer families a chance to get some of those necessities without adding another expense to the back-to-school budget.
And in many cases, the events are about more than supplies. They are also opportunities for children and families to connect with their neighborhoods, meet community organizations and start the school year feeling supported.

Pittsburgh Urban Media will continue to update this list as additional back-to-school giveaways and family events are announced.
