VisitPITTSBURGH Announces Winners of Photo Contest

PITTSBURGH – Over 2,300 photo submissions showcased the Pittsburgh region’s vibrancy and variety in the “Say Cheese, Pittsburgh!” photo contest, sponsored by VisitPITTSBURGH. The best photos will be used to promote the Pittsburgh region to travel writers, tourists and meetings planners around the world.

The grand prize winner of $1,000 is Bob Hayes for his submission of “Reflection at Phipps.” Mr. Hayes took the photo during a leisurely summer photography session at Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. The photo depicts the pond outside the conservatory with a piece of glass art in the foreground and a clear reflection of the Victorian-style greenhouse behind it. Mr. Hayes is an avid photographer and president of the Photographic Section of the Academy of Science and Art of Pittsburgh in Mt. Lebanon.

The second place winner of $250, Fran Griffin, submitted a photograph entitled “Springtime on the North Side,” portraying a neighborhood street in full bloom. Nicole Nguyen, the third place winner of $150, submitted “Lovin’ Pittsburgh,” a nighttime photo featuring a silhouette of a couple embracing at the Point State Park fountain. The two fourth place winners of $50 are Kathy Crispino, with her creative submission of “A Little Heinz Ketchup with That Dog” and Peter Martin with his festive submission of “Pittsburgh Jazz.”
