Soldiers & Sailors Hall of Valor Induction Ceremony Days Away    
 
 PITTSBURGH - Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc., will hold its annual Joseph A. Dugan, Jr. Hall of Valor induction ceremony and welcome new members into the Hall of Valor on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 2:00 pm. This special program recognizes Pennsylvania veterans who have received medals for bravery and heroism during times of military conflict.
 
Since its inception in 1963, Soldiers & Sailors has inducted approximately 700 veterans as recipients of the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross, Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross (limited inductions also include Airmen's Medal, Soldier's Medal, Coast Guard Medal and The Navy & Marine Corps Medals)."The Hall of Valor honorees represent those veterans who have performed distinguished service through acts of heroism and gallantry above and beyond the call of duty," said President & CEO John F. McCabe. "We are privileged to have this opportunity and responsibility of paying tribute to and honoring these service members who, through their extraordinary contributions and selfless service, helped to make our country stronger and better."
 
The 13 honorees listed below represent seven Pennsylvania counties, four branches of the U.S. military, and have received four types of medals awarded for gallantry.
 
  
The induction ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in Soldiers & Sailors' auditorium and is open to the public. The community is encouraged to attend the free ceremony. A reservation only dinner reception in honor of the 2017 Class will take place after the ceremony in the Grand Ballroom. Reservations for the reception closed prior to this press release.
 
Soldiers & Sailors is currently accepting applications for the Class of 2018. To qualify, a member of the armed forces must have been born in Pennsylvania, or enlisted or lived during a significant part of their life in the Commonwealth and received one of the aforementioned medals. Soldiers & Sailors takes nominations all year and will accept nominations for next year's induction through January 1, 2018. Soldiers & Sailors is the nation's only memorial and museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches of service, and in all capacities (Active, Reserve, Guard). The historic building was designed by renowned architect Henry Hornbostel and has exhibits covering all of America's conflicts from the Civil War through Afghanistan.
