Pittsburgh Public Schools to Reopen No Earlier Than Tuesday, April 14

Today Governor Wolf announced all schools in the commonwealth will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The Governor previously closed all schools for 10-days through the end of this week. For Pittsburgh Public Schools, this means that all schools will remain closed through the District’s scheduled spring break, and students and school-based staff will return no earlier than Tuesday, April 14.

“We have been actively working to develop a continuity of education plan for all of our students as we prepare for the potential longtime closure of schools,” said Superintendent Anthony Hamlet, Ed.D. “Tomorrow, we will launch a survey to understand the technology needs of our students and staff to ensure we are adequately prepared to continue learning and operations during the closure.”

In addition to schools, the closure applies to all Early Head Start, PreK, and Center programs within the District.  Grab and Go meals will continue at 30 locations from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday, Tuesday and Friday next week. On Friday, April 3, students will receive a package of meals to carry them through Spring Break.   Grab and Go locations will close with all schools for Spring Break April 6 – April 13.

The District will continue to keep families and staff informed during these challenging times.  All families and staff are encouraged to check the website www.pghschools.org/coronavirus  and social media daily for updates. The District will continue to use its robocall system to alert families to new information. Families can submit a ticket through the District’s Let’s Talk system (www.pghschools.org/LetsTalk ) to update their telephone number, so that they receive calls.
