Mattress Factory Celebrates Founder Barbara Luderowski

The Mattress Factory invites friends, family and community to celebrate the life of Barbara Luderowski on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6 - 10pm, with a free party featuring entertainment, music, food, drinks and drag queens.

This celebration honors not only Barbara’s life but her commitment to community. Barbara created a space that welcomed artists, fostering a community of creativity that stimulated the redevelopment of the North Side neighborhood and impacted the entire City of Pittsburgh. The Mattress Factory welcomes neighbors and friends, near and far, to continue Barbara’s vision by coming together in celebration of the arts.

A Party for Barbara includes a bagpipe tribute, music by DJ Dave Zak and soul-themed performances by Kierra Darshell's Divas of Drag. Craft beer and signature cocktails are provided by Penn Brewery and Pennsylvania Libations. A pig roast, oyster bar, antipasto and sorbet are courtesy of Black Radish Kitchen, Merchant Oyster Co., All in Good Taste Productions and Gilligan’s Sorbet.

Free parking will be available on the street and at 1300 Brighton Road. Ride sharing services (Lyft, Uber, Z-Trip) are encouraged. Galleries will be closed as the museum installs its fall exhibition, Artists in Residence, opening September 21, 2018.

Barbara shared her final wishes with the Post-Gazette, “Then I want some huge celebration as a fund-raiser for the Mattress Factory with a big ticket.” Tickets for this event are “Pay What You Will” and can be found at mattress.org
