Innovation Speakers Series at Shady Side Academy April 30:
Smart Cities: The Impact in Pittsburgh and Beyond

 

 Shady Side Academy will host the third event in its Innovation Speakers Series, Smart Cities: The Impact in Pittsburgh and Beyond, on Tuesday, April 30, from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will be held in the new McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation on the SSA Senior School campus, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. The event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance RSVP is required. RSVP online by Friday, April 26, at www.shadysideacademy.org/community-events/innovation-speakers-series.

 

The next wave of the Internet of Things brings a lot of promise. Smart cities can help solve the concerns citizens face every day, from traffic and public safety to aging infrastructure and utility costs. At this event, three expert panelists will share local and global perspectives on how smart cities are solving some of the biggest challenges for citizens and cities today, and what the future can hold. Panelists include: 

  • Karen Lightman, Executive Director of Metro21: Smart Cities Institute, Carnegie Mellon University
  • Mike Zeto, VP of IoT Solutions and General Manager of Smart Cities, Internet of Things, AT&T
  • Santiago Garces, Director of the Department of Innovation and Performance, City of Pittsburgh

 

The event begins at 6 p.m. with registration, refreshments and self-guided tours of the McIlroy Center, followed by the presentation and a Q&A from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the McIlroy Center’s J. Keefe Ellis Commons.

 

The Innovation Speakers Series at Shady Side Academy features distinguished professionals sharing their perspectives on the innovations that are changing industries in Pittsburgh and around the world. The events are free and open to the public. Previous series events includedThe Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Pittsburgh and Beyond on Oct. 9, 2018, and How Platforms and Blockchain Are Reshaping Business for Today and Tomorrow on Feb. 21, 2019.
