While Western Pennsylvanians practice social distancing and stay at home to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Senator John Heinz History Center has compiled an array of virtual history offerings through its website and digital platforms.

Though the museum's doors are closed, the History Center’s online educational resources are available for parents, students, teachers, researchers, and more.

The History Center has curated a select list of digital offerings on a new web page: heinzhistorycenter.org/HistoryAtHome.

Virtual visitors can:

  • Read more than 300 fascinating stories focused on Pittsburgh’s rich and dynamic history, written by History Center experts, on the Making History blog. (direct link: heinzhistorycenter.org/blog)

  • Listen to important stories on regional history through The Cornerstone podcast, which connects Jewish historical sites in Western Pa. to historic materials in the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives at the Heinz History Center. Each episode investigates one spot in the region, such as a synagogue or work of public art, then tells its story through documents, photographs, and oral histories, as well as interactive StoryMaps available online. The Cornerstone is made possible through a grant from the SteelTree Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. Listen and subscribe at heinzhistorycenter.org/learn/podcasts.
