Every day, sometimes several times a day, the world watches the reality show “POTUS 45” whose main character is seemingly unfit to serve as President of the United State but who, possibly with the help of Russia, got elected.  The loquacious “45,” not only harms himself by talking/tweeting too much but he also damages our national ethos, leaving some wondering whether he manifests the symptoms of a psychopathic personality.  Indeed, as Eugene Robinson wrote, “It is uncomfortable to talk about the president’s mental health.  But at this point it is irresponsible not to do so.” (August 23, 2017)   If we, for example, declare North Korea’s Kim Jong-un to be “unhinged,” then what are we to think if  “45” engages Jong-un by outperforming his “unhinged” behavior?

In keeping with that aspect of a narcissistic personality whereby “…people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others…” (Mayo Clinic), the lead reality show character routinely states things such as, “I built a truly great company worth many billions of dollars.  That is a big part of the reason I was elected. As President, I can make far better deals with foreign countries than Congress."

In accordance with the psychopathological trait and, when he can’t make the deal, he simply lies, e.g., "Even the president of Mexico called me. …very few people are coming because they know they’re not going to get through our border, which is the ultimate compliment.”  Not only was no such called made, for details on “45’s” inability to pressure the Mexican President, see the front page expose in the August 4, 2017 Washington Post.

Another case of pathological type lying came after “45” gave his July 24, 2017 rambling political speech at the Boy Scouts National Jamboree.  Following a tremendous amount of criticism regarding his remarks to the youngsters, “45” stated, “I got a call from the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them, and they were very thankful.”  This lie was exposed when a Boy Scout official indicated that no such call took place with the chief Scout executive.

According to a Mayo Clinic definition, “…behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism. …Antisocial personality disorder, sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others.  People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or with callous indifference…”  Instead of experiencing shame and remorse, affected people immediately blame others and shout things such as “You’re fired!”

Although his favorite demon to castigate is “the liberal media,” “45”also lashes out at friends as he did when he blamed his Republican Congress for not supporting him.  He enthusiastically appoints people to high positions but quickly publicly humiliates them as he did Attorney General Sessions regarding the “Russian matter.”   When he signed the bill authorizing sanctions against Russia, Korea and Iran, “45” declared that the bill was flawed, probably unconstitutional, and that he only sign it “for the sake of national unity.”  Never mind the fact that the bipartisan bill passed by a 419-3 vote in the House and a 98-2 vote in the Senate!

When there is no readily available individual to blame and, in all cases refusing to accept responsibility, “45” changes topics by throwing a tirade against some group.  For example, without consulting appropriately with military leadership, “45” declared, that transgender people would not be permitted to be in the military.  When he was later caught in a morass of lies and failures, he declared war on affirmative action in colleges, notwithstanding the fact that the Supreme Court had ruled several times on the matter.

If there were to be a theme song added to the “POTUS 45” reality show, then the following lyrics from The Wiz would constitute a perfect fit.  ““When I wake up in the afternoon …don't nobody bring me no bad news ‘Cause’ I wake up already negative and I've wired up my fuse. So don't nobody bring me no bad news…”  True to his famous meme from an earlier life, “45’s” response to bad news continues to be “You’re fired!”  He fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to implement his flawed immigration executive order.  In rapid succession, he fired [1] U.S. Attorney, Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara (guilty of being an Obama appointment), and [2] FBI Director James B. Comey for “mishandling the Russian matter.”  However, the most telling firing episode of the “POTUS 45” reality show took place in the now infamous West Wing of the White House.

A character nicknamed the “Mooch” was fired 10 days after he was hired to be the Communications Director.  Seemingly, the “Mooch” too was having delusions of grandeur after he was deemed the “Mini-me,” some sort of alter ego to “45.”  Riding this “high,” the “Mooch” said of several colleagues [1] “Reince is a f–king paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac;” and [2] “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own c- -k,” he said. “I’m not trying to build my own brand off the f- -king strength of the president. I’m here to serve the country.”   Unable to accept responsibility for hiring the “Mooch,” after top aides urged him not to do so, “45” swiftly replaced the “Mooch” with one of his Generals.   Since the “Mooch” episode, “45” did what many believed to be unthinkable by firing his White House Strategist, Steve Bannon.

A very warped sense of humor serves as background for “POTUS 45.”  Prior to ascending to the White House, “45” “joked” about grabbing women by their private parts and how willing they were to having this done to them.  Once on what he seems to view as his “throne,” “45” was said to be only joking when he urged police officers to engage in police brutality at the time of making an arrest.   However, the buffoonery of the “POTUS 45” reality show is not a laughing matter.

World as well as national leaders have been insulted.  Reckless decisions have been made as was the case of withdrawing from the Paris agreement.  A Republican dominated Congress can’t do its job in part because “45” is so busy tweeting foolishness or in other ways manifesting diarrhea of the mouth.  Past supporters, in desperate need of health care, tremble as he threatens to cut off their health care by not paying federal subsidies associated with the Affordable Care Act.  Individual states refused to comply with his efforts to tamper with voter registration via his so-called “Voter Fraud Commission.”

Because of his disgraceful comments regarding the violence induced in Charlottesville by racial hatred and bigotry, he has been condemned by most rationale people.  An August 23, 2017 USA Today article indicated, “A poll by the media and technology company Morning Consult over the weekend showed 55% of respondents said Trump was not stable.”

Our children should not continue to learn their civics lessons from the horrible “POTUS 45” reality show.  A bit of good news is that the show has dropped in the national ratings.  “A majority of us—nearly 6 out of 10 of us, according to a McClatchey-Marist poll—are embarrassed by the rhetoric, behavior and policies that have come from the present occupant of the White House.  When we read his snarky tweets and hear his self-aggrandizing speeches, we cringe…”  Dan Rodricks, Baltimore Sun, August 6, 2017.  We must make sure that this reality show ends when its four-year contract expires, if Congress is unable to do so sooner by impeaching “45” for being mentally unable to serve.
